Description
The Fluke Model 1587 FC, Model 1587, and Model 1577 are battery-powered, true-RMS insulation multimeters (hereafter referred to as Meter or UUT) featuring a 6000-count, 3 ¾ digit display, providing high-resolution measurements for a wide range of insulation testing and troubleshooting applications. Although this manual contains calibration and operational information for Models 1587 FC, 1587, and 1577, all illustrations and examples assume the use of the Model 1587 FC. Table 1 provides a detailed description of all symbols used in this manual to help ensure safe and accurate operation.
These meters are built to meet CAT III and CAT IV IEC 61010 safety standards, ensuring robust protection when working with electrical systems at different levels. The IEC 61010 standard classifies measurement categories (CAT I to CAT IV) based on the potential hazard from transient voltage impulses. CAT III-rated meters are suitable for protection against transients in fixed equipment installations, such as distribution panels and branch circuits, while CAT IV-rated meters provide protection from transients originating at the primary supply level, including overhead or underground utility service connections.
With true-RMS measurement capability, these meters accurately measure both AC and DC voltages in complex waveforms. They are ideal for maintenance, troubleshooting, and verification of electrical insulation, offering engineers, electricians, and technicians a reliable tool for ensuring equipment safety and operational integrity in industrial, commercial, and utility environments. The meters are also designed for portability and durability, making them suitable for use in field conditions where precision and safety are critical.
